Navy Health Services badge.

The Navy Health Service is responsible to Navy for:

  • Delivering high quality health care at sea;
  • Providing health support to Joint Health Command for ‘whole of Navy preparedness’ (keeping Navy people fit and well ashore);
  • Sponsoring the ‘Raise, Train and Sustain’ functions for Navy Health Personnel;
  • Providing Navy with coherent health policy, procedures and SME advice through consultation with Joint Health Command where necessary, and;
  • Navy Health Service Governance.

The Navy Health Service includes Permanent and Reserve members, Australian Public Servants and Contracted personnel across a range of health professions including dental assistants/technicians, dentists, doctors, health administrators, medical assistants, nurses and psychologists.

Services are delivered to Navy through:

  • A central headquarters located in Canberra;
  • The Fleet Health Support Unit in Sydney;
  • A reserve service, managed via regions with central support, which maintains a full range of health service professionals that are trained and ready to provide military service part time and/or full time at short notice;
  • A permanent service which provides full time primary, emergency and some inpatient health care services to Defence personnel either at sea or in garrison health facilities.

Permanent and Reserve Navy Health personnel can access information pertaining to their employment through the RAN Reserves website. Navy Health personnel will need to have a username and password to access the required information.
