Brought to you by RAN Band Melbourne under the direction of their Music Director, Lieutenant Commander Andrew Stokes, this concert series promotes a wide variety of accessible and engaging wind ensemble and chamber music.

Our first Soundwaves concert for 2023 will feature the Wind Band under the baton of Lieutenant Daniel McIlvride working with the theme of “stretching out” both physically and mentally with it being the first concert of the year but also in the scope of our capability as an ensemble.

For this concert we will be featuring an exciting and epic arrangement of the famous Paganini Variations for violin entitled Fantasy Variations On A Theme By Paganini arranged for wind band by American composer/arranger James Barnes.

Also featured is a return performance of a three part suite for wind band entitled Spirit Of The Dandenongs by RAN Band’s own Leading Seaman Cam McAllister. This piece acts as a sound picture to the region where Cam grew up.

Other pieces included in the program include The Immovable Do by Percy Grainger and Shenandoah arranged by Frank Tichelli.
