The Submarine Force (SUBFOR), located at HMAS Stirling, is responsible for providing a potent and enduring submarine capability that serves as the nation’s principal strategic deterrent. SUBFOR manages and coordinates the provision of a submarine capability to meet the Fleet Commander’s operational requirements.
SUBFOR oversees a wide variety of responsibilities including:
- setting long term personnel requirements to maintain combat readiness
- providing specialist advice on submarine operational standards through close liaison with the Submarine Sea Training Unit
- engagement with service providers and suppliers through Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) enterprise partners
- sustaining the delivery of engineering, logistical and other support services
- monitoring research and development.
